About Me Ahoy! I'm Mandie, occasionally known as Grace O'Malley or Grace Foely, depending on which act I'm working with. Generally speaking, it's safe to call me Grace. :)

I'm a twenty-three year old theatre major from Des Moines, Iowa. I'm working on a degree in acting.

I've been attending faires for the better part of seven years, and have been working them for about four years. Before I got into the game, I was a playtron. I've never attended faire without garb on. I don't know that I even could. I think I might spontaneously combust.

I love both working and attending faires, and am a part of The Tavern Wenches of Canterbury as well as a card-carrying member of The Ministry of Petty Offences.

I'm a wench and pirate from way back, and I've come to love the job. I mean really, the perks are pretty primo!
Music I tend to dig metal, rock, and alternative-styled music. But I have a soft spot for RenRadio and renaissance acts. Oh, and Great Big Sea. :D

Wenches and water and mud; oh my!

Friday, May 11, 2007, 01:31 AM CST [General]

So a quick post before I toddle myself off to bed. :D

The Tavern Wenches worked their first faire of the season in Amana last weekend. Saturday was rather beautiful faire weather, but as it is notorious for the Amana faire, one day was plagued with water and wet.

And not just a smattering of rain, no -- a torrential downpour that left me so cold and wet I couldn't feel my feet after a few hours. I sent Miss Emma to the chariot after a few hours so she could try and warm up some. God bless the hot cocoa vendors -- they gave the wenches TWO cups for the price of one! :D Also a HUGE hug and love to Tina and her son Matt who bailed us out of a tight situation and gave us a place to stay for Friday night. The Nelson family are an amazing bunch of people. Seriously. :)

My cloak was twice as heavy, it was so rain-soaked, though fortunately everything short of my cheery yellow bloomers came clean. (I took an icky spill down a muddy hill RIGHT at the end of faire! I'm so GRACEful!) I suppose they'll need to be replaced, but that's alright. It just means I get to sew more!

Hopefully the NEW look for the Wenches will be ready by Nebraska at the end of the month, but I make no promises. It's very commedia del arte inspired, so I think it'll be fun to see how my vision comes to fruitition. :D

This week I've to write a play for the 711 Theatre Festival -- where they're still looking for last minute volunteers to help if you wanna get involved! As well as sew myself some costume-y bits (and a hat!) for a NERO event next weekend.

I love sewing. It's the best. I would totally just sew piles and piles of garb if my wallet could afford it.

Anyhow, it was good to get to see various familiar faces -- the court, the people at Amos', Starboard Bound, my beloved Scuvvy Dawgs, and to wear a bodice again. :D Hopefully the rest of the summer will be drier! Next stop -- Nebraska!

    Hope to see you there!

...For now, I'm off to bed.

    A myriad of musings...

Monday, April 30, 2007, 11:51 AM CST [General]

So, the panic has subsided, somewhat, with the appearance of Tina's offer of her firstborn son, Matt, so do the slot of beloved pirate for our second show. Everyone should have a Rennie Mom to make their lives so much easier. :D

I'm -so- excited to run and play and (gasp!) wear a bodice. I -really- miss bodices and corsets and all of that jazz.  I miss skirts and bloomers and my flatcap (yay Scott's Dragon!) and my stripey socks. I miss talking in a funny accent.

All of these things will be remedied with the arrival of this weekend and our first show of the year in Amana. I'm so excited to meet up with old friends and to gallavant and cause all kinds of good wenchy trouble. :D

I remedied that somewhat on Saturday by attending the potluck gathering with a buncha other rennie-types. It was a little fix, and should hold me over until Friday. Probably. Mostly. More or less.

In other news, my Renspace is all Grace-i-fied now. I got a wild hair, and made myself a background and coded my page all pretty-like. :D It's not -exactly- how I I'd like it, but I'm restricted by the coding of Renspace -- so all in all, it pleases me.

Alrighty. I need to wander off and clean some things, and sew some other things, and call some people about some other-other things.

    See you this weekend, Rennies!

Good luck with the show this summer! With a touch of luck, we'll make Des Moines for a visit... depends on if I'm directing a show then or not. Knock 'em dead kid!
